U.S. Has No Evidence Syria Used Chemical Weapons: Zoubi

Countries threatening Syria are partnering with terrorists in an economic and military campaign against the country, Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi said.

"Any aggression towards Syria is illegitimate. Any pretext for launching this aggression will not be fruitful, particularly given the U.N. team charged with investigating the use of chemical weapons in Syria hasn't yet completed its mission or issued its report," Zoubi said during an interview with Lebanon's al-Manar television channel on Monday.

"The U.S. has no evidence Syria used chemical weapons, because Syria did not use them," he said, accusing the U.S. of fabricating the evidence as it had already done in Iraq.

The minister dismissed allegations the Syrian army had used chemical weapons, saying that while there was no doubt chemicals had been used, terrorist groups were responsible.

Foreign and Expatriates Minister Faisal Mikdad meanwhile stressed that the Syrian government had responded to all requests by the U.N. team in charge of the investigation because it was confident that it was terrorist groups which were responsible for the use of chemical weapons.
