U.N. envoy Lakhdar Brahimi has told All4Syria that "the sooner we hold the [international] conference, the more likely positive results.”
But, the envy said conditions are preventing a time frame from being specified for the conference.
“The Syrian opposition did not agree on a single mechanism for its representation and it needs time for consultations and meetings to form a delegation suitable to represent it,” Brahimi said.
“The opposition will meet in Istanbul this month and early next month to resolve the problems and they are working hard to resolve this dilemma in order to find a delegation to represent them,” he added.
“We are aware that there are several obstacles on our way, including the lack of a united opposition ".
In response to questions about the opposition’s conditions for attendance at Geneva, Brahimi said that the agreement with the United States, Russia and the U.N. was that the conference will be held without preconditions.
"We have said previously there is no military solution neither for the regime nor the opposition, the solution is with humane wisdom, and that the only solution is the peaceful one,” he said.
He added that the tripartite talks that we Wednesday were “very important”.
“I will not announce the date of Geneva Conference, but we can say that it will take place before the end of this year,” he said.
