Khatib Says Little Response to Initiative

The former president of the Syrian National Coalition, Moaz al-Khatib, said in a telephone conversation with Rosana that "there is no accurate information about an upcoming solution to the Syrian crisis", and described the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as "optimistic."

"I have no information, but it does not seem that the initiative has any link to what Lavrov said. It is possible that he didn’t hear about it, because if he did, he would be more optimistic. It was not an initiative but a gift, but after gathering the facts and circumstances, it could become an initiative," Khatib said, referring to a recent plan he announced to solve the crisis.

Khatib pointed out that more than one country has shown interest in what he termed e "gift", and "It is possible there will be some meetings soon. In general, the responses were positive, though some parties criticized it, especially writers and journalists, but we strive toward a real solution, not a concession, as some are trying to portray."

Khatib explained that the regime did not show any response to the initiative, adding: "Usually the regime takes its time to think about any initiative, and perhaps it will neglect the subject, but there is a public acceptance."

Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, said in an interview with Russian Itar-Tass agency that "there are chances for an approaching settlement for the crisis in Syria".
