Aleppo: Syrian Opposition Takes Ground from ISIS Near Azaz

Syrian opposition factions participating in Operation Euphrates Shield advanced on Monday to break the first defense lines of the Islamic State group in the villages east of Azaz, Aleppo’s northern countryside, local sources reported.

Zaman al-Wasl's reporter in Aleppo said the opposition fighters recaptured nine villages from ISIS in Aleppo’s northern countryside following fierce battles.

Leader of the Levant Front, Abou Hatem, said the armed opposition captured on Monday the villages of Tawaqli, Yahmoul, Al-Adiye, Al-Sheikh Reeh, Baraghide, Al-Bul, Jariz, Ghazal and Kafar Ghan.

Abou Hatem told Zaman al-Wasl the advances made during Monday’s battles were an important development as the liberated villages are considered ISIS’ strongest defense lines.

He pointed out that the current phase of Euphrates Shield aims at liberating all villages in Aleppo’s northern countryside and up to Al-Bab city and surrounding villages in the eastern countryside.
