The Syrian National Rally has issued a statement in response to the consultative meetings being held by UN envoy Staffan De Mistura in an attempt find a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
The statement warned of De Mistura's misleading plan, calling on all those who received invitations to participate in the meetings to adhere to the demands of the Syrian people who wish for a democratic solution.
The Rally accuses De Mistura of bypassing the National Coalition through inviting its president and members in a ‘personal’ capacity, thus denying the existence and identity of the Coalition as the legitimate representative of the Syrian people.
De Mistura sent invitations to hundreds of Syrian figures, inviting them to ‘personally’ attend the consultative meetings at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva between May 7-22.
