Syria's Grand Mufti Ahmad Hassoun has denied rumors that he defected from the Syrian regime saying anyone who defects from Syria, defects from the Prophet Mohammad.
In a telephone interview with Syrian Satellite news channel, Hassoun described the rumors as "lies."
An audio clip broadcast on social networking sites and attributed to Hassoun, appeared to announce his defection from Bashar Assad’s regime.
Many believed the clip was bogus, and Hassoun has now confirmed his position with the regime.
