Syria Plays Effective Role in Drug Control, Says Interior Minister

Interior Minister Maj. Gen. Mohammad Khaled al-Rahmoun highlighted Syria’s significant role in combating drug trafficking and smuggling during his speech at the 2nd Baghdad International Conference on Combating Drugs. He emphasized the necessity of regional cooperation, particularly in light of the smuggling activities by terrorist groups operating along the borders.

Al-Rahmoun stressed that Syria has consistently played a crucial role in supporting international efforts to combat crime, especially drug trafficking. He pointed to the positive outcomes of Syria’s collaborative efforts with neighboring countries, particularly Iraq and Jordan, following the 1st Baghdad International Conference in 2023.

The Minister expressed Syria’s hope for enhanced cooperation and coordination across all countries in the region. He noted that the Interior Ministry has prioritized anti-terrorism units, providing them with necessary infrastructure despite the coercive measures imposed on Syria.
