Rebels Kill Senior Intelligence Commander in Eastern Homs

Rebels killed a senior commander of the Syrian regime armed forces on Tuesday near the Shaer gas field in eastern Homs province, pro-regime media reported.

Brigadier Muhsen Said Hussein, a top officer in Military Intelligence, was the head of Suqour al-Sahraa (Desert Hawks), one of the most well-trained units which contributed to many influential battles in Homs and Lattakia.

The slain officer, who gained reputation as a brutal and savage commander, will be buried in his hometown, Safita, in the countryside of Tartous on Wednesday, according to pro-Assad social media pages.

Hussein's supporters used to dub him the "Desert Lion". Even some activists said his popularity was greater than his rival, Colonel Suhail al-Hassan, the commander of military operation in Hama province.
