Armed terrorist groups launched a series of attacks against infrastructure on Sunday, targeting a gas station in Palmyra and a gas pipeline in Deir Al-Zor.
The attacks have led to a daily loss of gas supplies estimated at 5.5 million cubic meter, sources at the Petroleum Ministry said.
Sunday’s attack targeted a gas pipeline linking Homs with al-Tabiyeh Gas Factory at the Marat area in Deir Al-Zor with explosives. As a result, the daily supply of 3.5 million cubic meters of gas to the network was halted.
An official source at the Petroleum Ministry told SANA that terrorists also attacked with mortar shells the Shaer gas field to the north east of Palmyra on Saturday evening, which led to a breakdown at the station. The daily supply of two-million cubic meter of gas was halted as a result.
Specialized officials are repairing the damage in order to return the station to service as soon as possible, the source said.
The attacks will lead to a drop in fuel supply to electricity generating stations, and thus, rationalization hours of electricity consumption will increase, the source added.
