Rebels Down Fighter Jet Near Damascus

Rebels celebrated the first successful use of a russian-made missile to down the plane

Activists said on Tuesday Syrian rebels shot down an air force fighter jet in the Eastern Ghouta area of the Damascus Countryside.

Amateur video showed rebels inside the operations room of the air defense base affiliated with Assad forces, now under rebel control.

The rebels were shown seated in front of radar screens, following the fighter jet's movements, before shooting it down with a Russian-made missile.

Activists considered the operation a remarkable achievement, especially since all previously downed aircraft were shot down using shoulder-mounted missiles with a short range.
