Austria Says Ready to Host Syria Talks

President says Vienna has extensive experience in the Middle East and enjoys credibility and neutrality

Austrian President Heinz Fisher has expressed his country's readiness to host international talks on the crisis in Syria.

In an interview with Radio Austria, President Fisher said Vienna could be an appropriate location, alongside Geneva, to hold an international conference on Syria and would agree if it was asked to do so.

He said Vienna has an old and successful history of holding international conventions in this regard, extensive experience in the Middle East, and enjoys credibility and neutrality.

"Given that, we can play a role in reaching political solution to the crisis in Syria," the Austrian President said.
