Suicide Bomb Kills 4 in Central Damascus

The blast occurred near the National Security office

Deaths and injuries were reported on Tuesday after a suicide bomber blew himself up in central Damascus, Syrian state television reported.

“A terrorist suicide bomber wearing an explosive belt blew himself up in the Jebbeh district of the Jisr al-Abyad neighborhood, causing deaths and injuries,” state television said.

Activists reported four people were killed and another 17 wounded in the blast.

The first suicide bombing in Damascus carried out near the National Security office, near General Ali Mamlouk's headquarters and very close the Foreign Intelligence Department which is headed by General Hafez Makhlouf, a cousin of President  Bashar Assad.

Suicide bombings have repeatedly targeted the capital in the 33-month conflict which has pitted forces loyal to President Bashar Assad against rebels seeking his ouster.
