Swiss-Iran Meeting to Discuss Humanitarian Issues in Syria

A Syrian-Iranian-Swiss meeting was held in Tehran on Tuesday to discuss humanitarian needs in Syria and how to respond.

The meeting, which was held upon Iran's invitation, was headed by Syria's Assistant Foreign and Expatriates Minister Hussam Eddin Alla, Iran's  Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdullahian, and the Swiss Deputy Director of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation,  Manuel Bessler.

Alla gave a briefing on humanitarian conditions in Syria, underlining the government's special atterntion on humanitarian issues and constant efforts to provide citizen's needs "without discrimination".

Alla reviewed the factors contributing to the growing humanitarian need in Syria, saying it was mainly a result of activities by armed terrorist groups and the unilateral sanctions imposed by some countries on Syria.

He also reviewed the government's efforts to distribute humanitarian aid, rehabilitation of infrastructure and state institutions, compensation for those affected by terrorism, and facilitating the work of international humanitarian organizations.

Alla thanked the Iranian government for its support for the Syrian people and for holding the meeting, and voiced hope for close cooperation with the Swiss side in the field of humanitarian work and the lifting of sanctions on Syria.
