The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that the solution of the crisis in Syria could be only reached through political means.
The remarks were made in a statement issued on Tuesday on the meeting of the Russian President’s Special Representative to the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister, Mikhail Bogdanov and a delegation of Syrian tribal council leaders from the northeast of Syria.
“The talks focused on the current situation in the tribal areas in the north-east of Syria due to the accelerating crimes of the so-called the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) there,” the Ministry said.
“The two sides affirmed that military means can’t provide a solution to the crisis in Syria, but it can be only solved through political and diplomatic means based on the Syrian-Syrian dialogue,” the Ministry added.
The Ministry indicated that talks during the meeting focused on “discussing the participation of the tribal councils in Syria in the political process in a way that serves the halt of violence and the reconstruction of the economic and social infrastructure in the country.”
