Iranian officials claim move would not benefit regional security, urging the prevention of cross-border terrorist infiltration into Syria must be a priority
Tehran: Syrian No-Fly Zone Would Be a Mistake

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has warned that talk of a no-fly zone in Syria would be “a repetition of the previous mistakes”.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Kuwait, the Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs, Hossein Amir Abdullahian, said such a measure would not help in establishing security and stability in the region.

Abdullahian called for stronger control of countries’ borders with Syria in order to prevent the infiltration of terrorists, saying the measure is in order to develop a successful political solution to the crisis in Syria.

Abdullahian warned the threat of terror would arrive on the doorsteps of those countries supporting it if efforts to prevent the use of terrorism as a tool in the region, particularly in Syria and Iraq, were not accelerated.
