Suicide Bombing Targets PYD Forces in Hassakeh

A suicide bombing was carried out in front of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) Security Forces center in al-Qahtaniyah in the northeastern Syrian province of Hassakeh. Sources from the town said a member of the PYD's security forces was killed in the bombing, while four others were injured.

The sources added that the witnesses heard gunfire prior to the blast, as the security guards and the suicide bomber are believed to have exchanged fire in the moments before the explosion.

An ISIS fighter also blew himself up on 20 May near the recruitment center in al-Jawadiyah (Chil Agha), resulting in the injury of several civilians.

The population of al-Qahtaniyah is around 40,000 people, mainly Kurds and Arabs, with the town controlled by the Kurdish People's Protection Units.

The attack was the nineteenth explosion targeting al-Qahtaniyah.
