Zoubi: Self-Determination of the Syrian People ‘Non-Negotiable’

“What the Syrians decide is what will be,” information minister tells participants of Media Men Against Terrorism conference in Damascus

The self-determination of the Syrian people is not negotiable or debatable, be it with the friends, brothers, opponents or enemies, Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi stressed on Sunday.

“What the Syrians decide is what will be,” said Zoubi, addressing the first foundation meeting of the Secretariat of Damascus International Network “Media Men Against Terrorism,” with the participation of Arab, regional and international countries.

The meeting was held to follow up the International Media Conference Against Terrorism that was held in Damascus in July and saw the participation of 130 Arab, regional and international figures.

The minister made it clear that Syria has always believed that political routes are necessary to push for solutions, a belief he said is “the logic of a master and not of a follower.”

Such tracks and their outcomes, he added, should respect national sovereignty, mainly the territory and the self-determination of Syrians in shaping the nature of the political system which governs them.
