Air Strikes Kill 8 Children in Bombardment of Khan Shaykhun: Monitor

Eight children and two women, one of them pregnant, were killed Monday during an air raid targeting the city of Khan Shaykhun in the northwestern Idleb province, according to local sources and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Khan Shaykhun Media Center reported that warplanes bombarded residential districts, destroying a number of buildings, which led to the death of children and two women, while also wounding three other children and a woman, who were saved from under the rubble by a civil defense team.

Head of the Observatory Rami Abdelrahman said the air raid, which was likely Russian, struck a street in Khan Shaykhun, killing the children who were playing in front of one of the houses, as well as two women.

Abdelrahman said that among the victims were three children from one family, who were visiting their grandfather’s house, in addition to two siblings from another family.

The page “Khan Shaykhun lens and its countryside” recorded the names of those killed, including Samar Qateeni, and Nesrin Abu Ammash and her child, as well as the children Abdel Rahman Maarati, Louay Marati, Ghalia Marati, Rahaf Marati, Saqar Keneesawi, Muhasan Keneesawi, and Darar Baroud.

In a related context, the page Idleb News Network reported that a Syrian regime warplane was bombing the towns of Tarmla, Karsaa and Baarbou in the southern Idleb countryside. Civilians are reportedly trapped under the rubble in Baarbou and the civil defense force was heading to the area, according to sources.

The Idleb province has often been subjected to air raids by Russian and regime warplanes. The Jaish al-Fatah group controls the entire Idleb province with the exception of the besieged Shiite towns of Foua and Kefraya.
