Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad met on Wednesday with head of the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit Manuel Bessler to discuss boosting cooperation in relief efforts between Syria and Switzerland.

During the meeting, Mikdad thanked Bessler for the humanitarian aid provided by Switzerland to the Syrian people, affirming that Syria is ready to enhance cooperation and coordination with Switzerland in the development field.

Mikdad also called on the international community to condemn terrorist acts, citing recent events in the Damascus countryside. “The armed terrorist groups still target infrastructure, most recently, committing a war crime by cutting off the water supply to Damascus and Aleppo which increased the suffering of civilians,” he said.

In turn, Bessler said that the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit has the desire to enhance its cooperation with Syria in terms of humanitarian aid, stating: “We will open an office for the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Damascus in short period of time.”
