Iranian President Hassan Rouhani was sworn in for a second four-year term at a ceremony held in Tehran on Saturday.
In a speech after the event, Rouhani said that the crisis in Syria will be resolved by the elimination of terrorism and through intra-Syrian dialogue, noting that the Syrian people are the ones who will decide their own future.
He said the only way to eliminate terrorism is through international cooperation, adding that Iran is ready to cooperate with the countries of the world to achieve common interests.
The event was attended by Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis, who offered congratulations to Rouhani on behalf of President Bashar al-Assad.
On Sunday, Khamis met Iraqi President Fuad Masum to offer congratulations on the liberation of Mosul from the Islamic State (ISIS), adding that Syria and Iraq stand together in the face of terrorism.
He also declared Syria’s readiness and desire to develop relations with Iraq, particularly in the economic field.
