Syria Condemns U.S.-Led Coalition After Strike on Al-Qussour Kills 14

Syria’s Foreign Ministry called on the United Nations Security Council to immediately stop the brutal crimes committed by the U.S.-led international coalition against the Syrian people.

In two letters sent to the U.N. secretary-general and the head of the Security Council, the ministry said that coalition warplanes on Monday targeted the neighborhood of Al-Qussour in the city of Deir-ez-Zor, killing 14 civilians and wounding more than 40 others, including women and children.

The targeting of the neighborhood, which was recently liberated from Islamic State (ISIS) militants by government forces, highlights the coalition’s “suspicious” and “subversive” role, the ministry said.

It added that the bombing is proof of the “frantic” efforts to derail the advance of the Syrian army and its allies following their victories against the terrorist ISIS group, particularly in the province of Deir-ez-Zor.

The coalition, the ministry stressed, “Will not succeed in consolidating the de facto situation it seeks to achieve in cooperation with its agents, in a gross violation of the Syrian Arab Republic’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.”
