The Turkish vice counselor to the Education Ministry Arjan Demirci said on Monday that the number of Syrian students in Turkish universities was around 19,000.

He gave this number in a speech during the coordination meeting for foreign students in the Education Ministry which was held in Mardin province in the country’s southeast.

Demirci added that about 200,000 Syrian students were attending the ministry schools throughout the country and that about 305,000 other Syrian children were receiving education in shelters throughout Turkey.

He said that the number of Syrian children between 16 and 18 years old in Turkey stood at roughly 835,000 children, about 186,000 of whom receive education in Turkish schools and another 15,000 remotely.

The Turkish Education Minister Ismet Yilmaz in comments to Anadolu Agency stressed the need to enroll all Syrians of school age in education institutions in Turkey. He said: "We will integrate all Syrians into our education system in the coming period."
