Tal Kalakh Residents Fear Repeat of Qusayr Massacre

Rebels call for the FSA chief Salim Idriss to send reinforcements
Tal Kalakh Residents Fear Repeat of Qusayr Massacre

The Syrian National coalition said that Assad forces, reinforced by Hezbollah’s militias, have launched an offensive on the town of Tal Kalakh, on the Lebanese border in Homs province.

The number of causalities continues to rise in ongoing clashes, as the Free Syrian Army bravely defend the town.

Adding to difficult circumstances, a fire broke out in a western neighborhood of the town; it is believed that the fire was deliberately started to intimidate the civilian population.

The Revolutionary Brigade of Tal Kalkh warned that a new version of the Qusayr massacres is planned for the town, with pro-Assad "Shabiha" militia occupying three neighborhoods of Tal Kalakh on Sunday.

The rebels urged the FSA and the Coalition to act quickly. They asked Chief-of-Staff, General Salim Idriss to send fighters to defend the besieged city.

They also expressed a need for urgent humanitarian relief and medical aid.

Last March, the regime forces killed 13 civilians, most of them women and children in the Burj neighborhood, near Tal Kalakh.

The Coalition warns that the potential siege of Tal Kalakh puts civilians at risk of torture, starvation, and death on a large scale. The Assad regime is well known for ordering massacres during attacks of this sort, as they desperately attempt to squash the Syrian revolution's aims for freedom.

The Coalition renews its call on the international community to assume its responsibilities to put an end to Assad’s continued violations of international charters and covenants and its crimes against the Syrian people.

The international community must act immediately to save the lives of Syrian civilians, stop the bloodshed, and support the revolution that strives to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom and dignity.
