Russian Air Forces Assisted in Killing 28,000 Terrorists in Syria: Moscow

Russia’s air forces have assisted in eliminating around 28,000 terrorists in Syria since the beginning of its combat operations in September last year, according to an announcement by the Russian Security Council (SCRF) on Tuesday.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of an international security conference held in the Chechen capital Grozny, deputy head of the SCRF Yevgeny Lukyanov said that the joint Russian-Syrian military operations have helped eliminate an estimated 35 percent of militants that make up the ranks of the Islamic State group and Nusra Front.

He pointed out that Moscow’s main goal in Syria has been to assist in launching a political dialogue as it is the only way to end the crisis, adding that Russia is acting on a precise and limited military plan.

On Monday, head of Russia’s center for monitoring the cessation of hostilities in Syria, Sergei Kurylenko, stated that the Russian air forces intend to continue launching strikes on Nusra Front positions.
