The Syria Response Coordinators said that violations by Assad forces in parts of northwestern Syria were ongoing despite a unilateral ceasefire being announced by Russia at the end of August.
On Thursday, the team issued a report in which it said that Assad forces had, between Sept. 27 and Oct. 2, 2019, targeted at least 45 points in northwestern Syria distributed between: 21 areas in the Idleb countryside, 11 in the Hama countryside, seven in the Aleppo countryside, and six in the Lattakia countryside.
The statement criticized Russia and Iran for supporting the Syrian regime in the military campaign waged in Idleb since February, and called on the concerned countries and bodies to intervene to stop the ongoing hostile operations.
On Aug. 31, 2019, Russia declared a ceasefire in Idleb, but monitors and organizations working in the area have documented Russian violations of the truce, while the Syrian regime has not ceased the bombardment of villages and towns in the southern Idleb countryside.
Since the ceasefire was declared, the Syria Response Coordinators have documented the return of more than 61,000 displaced people to their regions in northwestern Syria out of an original 966,000 who were displaced into other areas during the recent military campaign by Assad’s forces—that is, 6.36 percent of the total displaced.
