The Supreme Judicial Council of Syria’s Al-Jazeera province held a public trial of 16 people accused of “looting and violence" on Friday.
Qamishli’s Asayish security forces arrested the 16 suspects two months ago after a group of people wearing Kurdish military uniforms abducted a number of civilians, robbing them of approximately 33,000 in the city of Ras al-Ayn.
The public trial, the first of its kind in the province, was held in the Mohammed Shekho Culture and Art Center in Qamishli city. The court was attended by representatives of Rojava’s justice office, in addition to a bench of 65 jurors selected by vote from the self-administration committees and institutions.
Court proceedings commenced with a minute silence, followed by an opening statement by the public prosecution.
