The official spokesman of the National Coordination Commission (NCC) Munther Khaddam said that the Commission will participate in Geneva II conference, which will convene on 22 January, despite the arrest of several of its leaders by the Syrian authorities.
“In a conference where the fate and future of Syria will be decided, it is a great political mistake to boycott it, and the Commission will not fall in to this mistake,” Khaddam said in a statement to AKI news agency.
“Of course this does not mean we will cease the pursuit and pressure on some international parties for the release of Rajaan Nasser and Abdulaziz al-Khair as well as and all the Commission's detainees and Syrian detainees in general,” he said.
Khaddam pointed out that preparations for Geneva II are going well and that on Tuesday, a 16 member delegation from the Commission will depart to attend negotiations in Switzerland, organized by the United Nations.
The Commission has previously stated that it will not attend Geneva without the release of Abdulaziz al-Khair, who it said would be among the delegation to Geneva II.
