Syrian military intelligence has arrested the army's top supplies official, Gen. Sulaiman al-Salama, over corruption allegations, a source told Zaman al-Wasl on Sunday. Salama is the second top general to be arrested within a month.
On July 7, President Bashar al-Assad ordered the arrest of Gen. Abdel Basset Loki, the head of missions administration, over fake dealing and the embezzlement of $80 million.
Corruption has never been a stranger to the Syrian state, as it exists in every government sector, institution, ministry and especially in its judicial sector, according to U.K.-based newspaper Al-Araby al-Jadeed.
This corruption increased dramatically after the Syrian revolution began, opening new doors for exploitation, especially among military officers.
