Syrian authorities on Wednesday recovered two stolen statues in a hideout belonging to Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists south of the ancient city of Palmyra in the countryside of Homs.

SANA’s reporter in the central province said that two stolen artifacts were found in an ISIS location in the area of Al-Sawwana, adding that the statues were handed to the department of antiquities in Homs.

Archaeologist Mohamad Khaled Asaad told SANA that the statues were stolen from a cemetery in the city of Palmyra, saying that they date back to the 2nd or 3rd century.
