Information Minister Omran al-Zoubion Sunday called for the release of all prisoners of conscience in Turkey, saying there is no justification for the arrest of such a huge number of peaceful demonstrators.
Addressing reporters, the minister said the use of excessive force against the Turkish people is unacceptable, pointing out that the peaceful demonstrators are not terrorists.
Zoubi said there is still an opportunity for the Turkish Prime Minister RecepTayyip Erdogan to halt the violence in Turkey, also saying that he should respect the will of his people and step down. He said Erdogan should leave for the Qatari capital of Doha, which might host him.
Popular protests against the policies of Erdogan's AKP Party continued in Ankara and Istanbul for the third consecutive day on Sunday.
