Syria, Iran, Iraq Confirm Cooperation on Counter Terrorism

Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Muallem discussed with Iranian and Iraqi counterparts Mohammad Javad Zarif and Ibrahim al-Jaafari the latest regional and international issues of common interest.

 

The three parties agreed to continue coordination and consultation on efforts to combat terrorism, particularly the threat of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, the Nusra Front, and other Al-Qaeda offshoots.

 

On a related note, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said in a statement that Iran, Syria, and Iraq are very serious about resolving problems in the region, adding that the tripartite meeting could lead towards a mechanism for resolving the crisis currently affecting the region and other regional issues.

 

Afkham stressed that terrorism is one of the most prominent issues in the region, and that Iran is playing an active role in tackling this issue.
