Syria, Russia Sign Agreement on Combating Terrorism

Bilateral agreement on counterterrorism provides a new 'legal springboard' to further bolster Syrian-Russian relations

Interior Minister Mohammad al-Shaar and his Russian counterpart General Vladimir Kolokoltsev signed a cooperation agreement on countering dangerous crimes, including terrorism, on Sunday.

General Kolokoltsev told SANA that Russian-Syrian relations are developing along at a steady pace, adding that the agreement provides a new legal springboard to further bolster these relations.

Shaar highly appreciated the bilateral relationship in all fields, adding that the agreement sets new mechanisms to counter and eliminate terrorism.

The interior minister highlighted that cooperation on counterterrorism and extremism is a top priority for the two countries.

The officials also discussed bilateral relations in the field of security.

The minister conveyed President Bashar al-Assad’s greetings to President Vladimir Putin, affirming that the Syrian people thank Russia for its support during the crisis.

Heading a Syrian delegation, Shaar earlier paid a visit to the Russian Ministry of Interior Affairs to inspect its work and structure.
