Wildfire Destroys 30,000 Acres of Forest in Homs Countryside

More than 30,000 acres of natural forest were destroyed in the western countryside of Homs province last Friday when a large fire broke out, eyewitnesses told Zaman al-Wasl‫.

Eyewitnesses said in the early hours of Friday a large fire broke out in the regime-controlled town of Sheen, 20 km west Homs for unknown reasons, spreading to the fields in the villages of Sweri and Rowdet and reaching the Homs-Tartous highway within hours, causing its closure‫.

According to local residents of Sheen, firefighters have reached the village and managed to control the fire after destroying around 200 square kilometers of fields planted with fruit trees and other forest land‫.s

The town Marmerita also witnessed a similar fire. The cause of the fire is still unknown‫.

Zaman al-Wasl's correspondent mentioned that fire had reached homes in Marmerita and the village of Kafra, and would have destroyed the natural forests in Alsaeh Mountain and Zaitoniyeh mountains if the firefighters had not arrived in time.

Wadi Alnasara News Facebook page also confirmed that fires had destroyed large areas of Alsaeh Mountain as well as the towns of Mermerita, Alnasriyeh, Ein Albardeh and Kafra, injuries and suffocating a number of people‫.
