Al-Souriah Net correspondent in Aleppo, Mohammed al-Shafei, said today that the residents of the city of Al-Atareb in Aleppo burned tires and blocked roads, demanding Nusra Front to leave the city.
Our correspondent explained that the protest came after Nusra fighters stormed the city with heavy maching guns to arrest Mahmoud Qijo, a former member of the Hazm Movement.
“Nusra gunmen and Mahmoud Qijo exchanged fire, injuring a Nusra fighter. Nusra responded by mobilizing a large contingent of gunmen to arrest Qijo without recourse to the city court,” said Shafei.
“City residents prevented Qijo’s arrest by cutting off the roads. Nusra fighters are still stationed in their Al-Atareb headquarters. However, other opposition factions such as Al-Sham Rebels, Jaish Al-Mujahideen, and Bayariq Al-Islam also garrison the city,” Shafei stated. He futher confirmed that no clash has taken place yet between these factions and Nusra.
