Thousands of IDPs Face Threat of Pro-regime Militias: Coalition

The safety of thousands of internally displaced (IDPs) in Syria’s coastal area is at risk following recent attacks on camps by pro-regime militias, according to the Syrian National Coalition,

Militias loyal to the Assad regime on Tuesday attacked the al-Karnak IDP camp in Tartous province. A number of displaced were killed or injured when militants known as shabeeha opened fire randomly on the camp.

The main political opposition warned of attempts by the Assad regime to commit more crimes under the pretext of fighting the Islamic State group.
