Russian Companies Will Be Strongly Represented in Syria’s Reconstruction

Syrian Economy and Foreign Trade Minister Samer Al-Khalil said that efforts are underway to create suitable economic conditions and strengthen ties of cooperation with friendly countries in Syria, especially Russia.

In a meeting with Syrian and Russian businesspeople on Friday, Khalil pointed to the availability of important investment opportunities in Syria, which is a magnet for foreign investors, expecting that Russian companies would play a strong role in reconstruction.

He said that the forum will allow for the exchange of views on the promotion of trade, indicating that the Syrian and Russian governments have prepared the economic and legal conditions to assist with the next stage.

Speaking at the event, top commercial attaché at the Russian Embassy Igor Matteviev commented on the opening of the Damascus International Fair last week, saying: "I saw businessmen from different countries and I saw Syria's peace and love represented by the opening of the exhibition."

He noted that the participating Russian delegation includes representatives from the country’s largest companies, adding that the forum is an opportunity to exchange views on cooperation in the fields of industry, health, trade, technology, transport and the export of Syrian products to Russia.
