Deir-ez-Zor Victory a Strategic Shift in War Against Terror: Syrian Army

The Syrian army has hailed the breaking of the Islamic State’s siege of Deir-ez-Zor city as a strategic shift in the war on terrorism.

“After a series of successful operations, units of our armed forces, in cooperation with the supporting and allied forces […] managed through qualitative operations and heroic actions to break the siege on our people who were besieged for more than three years in Deir-ez-Zor,” the army’s general command said in a statement.

It added that the successful operation came after government forces were able to meet with Syrian army units in Deir-ez-Zor, who have protected local residents, achieved heroics and set a model to be followed in sacrifice and giving that has led to this great victory.

The command noted in its statement that hundreds of ISIS terrorists were killed or injured during the operation, in addition to the destruction of many of their positions and fortifications and hundreds of vehicles.

The statement pointed out that the achievement is proof of the ability of the army to defeat the terrorist project in Syria and foil the fragmentation plans of its sponsors and supporters.

The statement added that this achievement is also an important point for the expansion of military operations in the region and its surroundings to eliminate the remaining hotbeds of ISIS terrorists.
