Syria Looks to Boost Natural Resources Cooperation with Russian Firms

Joint Syrian-Russian talks were held in Moscow on Monday to discuss the prospect of bolstering cooperation in the fields of oil, gas and mineral resources.

Speaking at the talks, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali Ghanem said that cooperation with Russian resources companies has been positive and fruitful due to the Syrian government’s efforts to expand ties in these fields.

The minister highlighted the need to hold follow-up meetings on the implementation of the cooperation agreements reached by the Syrian-Russian joint governmental committee for economic and technical cooperation in Sochi and Damascus.

For their part, the Russian business representatives stressed their intention to continue working with the Syria through projects that form a road map in the field of energy, including geology, extraction, exploration, rehabilitation, and the development of oil and gas fields and phosphate mines. They also voiced their hopes to organize educational programs and joint scientific studies.
