Woman and Her Baby Die in Blockaded al-Rukban Camp

On Wednesday, a woman and her baby from the al-Rukban camp died as a result of a lack of medical care. The camp, on the Syrian-Jordanian border, is blockaded by Assad’s forces and Russia.

Local sources said that the woman, Sahar Mohamed Hussein Ibrahim al-Kows, was a displaced person from the city of Palmyra, and that she died during childbirth after she was brought to the Sham Medical Center.

Kows suffered from low blood pressure during the birth that led to a myocardial infarction. The medical staff tried to get her into Jordan but the country refused entry, saying there was no one to bring her in during the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The sources said that the paramedics at the center tried to save her in a desperate attempt but that she died, and that they also tried to save the child, who also died.

Social media carried videos of the woman, before she was treated and died, crying out to be saved.

Displaced people in the al-Rukban camp, blockaded by Assad’s forces and Russia, suffer from difficult humanitarian living conditions, as well as a lack of medical and health care in the camp, and Jordan closing its borders in the face of desperate medical cases.
