Russian Foreign Ministry: Attempts to Transfer Terrorists From Idleb to Iraq

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov announced that Russia is currently observing attempts to transport terrorists from Idleb to Iraq.

On Oct. 9, 2018, the TASS news agency quoted Syromolotov as saying, “There are attempts to transport them [terrorists from Idleb] to Iraq. They have been blocked. Iraq is responsible for that because it does not want new terrorists.”

He noted that what he called the “safe havens” for terrorists were currently present in Indonesia, Sinai and Afghanistan.

He added: “There are first-rate ‘safe havens’ [for terrorists] primarily in places experiencing conflict … especially the Sinai, while terrorists have also been moved to Indonesia and Afghanistan.”

He stressed that one of the most difficult tasks today was preventing the return of foreign terrorists from the Middle East.

He added: “They will deploy in Europe, and they will slip into Russia through Belarus and Ukraine.”
