A member in the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces told Ana Press that the minister for local administration in the Syrian Interim Government, Mohamed Sarour al-Mudeeb, had reconciled with the regime.

The coalition member, who asked not to be named, said that the local administration minister had refused to leave Daraa to head to northern Syria and preferred to remain there, which led the coalition to discuss dismissing him. However, the minister offered his resignation before he was dismissed, as a preemptive move.

The coalition member told Ana Press that the minister had a chance to leave for northern Syria and carry out his work in the northern liberated areas or to enter Jordanian territory, if he preferred, but that he wanted to remain in the areas controlled by the Russians and the Assad regime.

A source in the Local Administration Ministry said: “Preparation had been made for the local administration minister to head to northern Syria. An office and residence had been prepared for him, and he was contacted before the last batch left Daraa to convince him not to remain and carry out a reconciliation with the regime. However, he rejected the proposal completely, and this was the last communication between the ministry and him.”

The director of the foreign relations office in the Interim Government, Yasser al-Hajji, only said that the minister had resigned about a month and a half ago, and that he no longer had any relation to the government. In a phone call with Ana Press, he added that the resignation was for health reasons.

Mudeeb had been the vice president of the Daraa province council and then had been appointed head of the council, and then was appointed minister for local administration in the government of Jawad Abu Hatab after the minister Yaqoub al-Ammar was killed in an explosion in Daraa.
