Real Value of Syrian Exports Could Reach $5 Billion: Industry Expert

The real value of Syrian exports for 2017 is more than $4 billion, according to the head of the Syrian Exporters Federation, Mohamad Nasser al-Suwah, adding that the sum could end up reaching reach as high as $5 billion.

Speaking to Al-Watan, Suwah said that the differences between the official and real number of Syrian exports was sometimes as much as double for some goods such as olive oil, while it was 10 times for other goods.

According to Suwah, Syrian textile exports had become clearly present in Iraqi markets and were competing strongly with Turkish textiles, adding that a planeload of exports was being shipped daily to Iraq.

One exporter said he had shipped to 90 countries over the first 10 months of the current year, including 72 foreign and other Arab countries. He added that he had worked according to a special mechanism to secure the shipment of Syrian goods to these countries in light of the current sanctions imposed on Syria.
