Syria, with the help of its allies, will relentlessly continue its war on terror alongside a political solution, Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem said on Wednesday.

Muallem’s remarks came during a meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari to discuss developments in Syria and the outcome of recent meetings in Astana and Geneva.

During the meeting, the officials discussed ways to deepen strategic ties binding Tehran and Damascus, while Muallem reviewed Syrian efforts in its battle against terrorist organizations and their backers that are seeking to destroy Syria in service of Israel.

Lauding the military victories achieved by the Syrian army and its allies and friends, Muallem stressed that Syria will continue its war on terrorists relentlessly, in parallel with its continued efforts to reach a solution to the crisis that maintains its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.

For his part, Ansari affirmed that Iran will continue to support Syria and its people on all levels, including in its battle against terrorism, until achieving victory and restoring peace and stability to the whole of Syria.

He also highlighted the importance of Iranian-Syrian-Russian coordination to reach a political solution in Syria, stressing the importance of reaching a settlement without foreign interference.

Both ministers strongly condemned Israel’s closing of Al-Aqsa Mosque and preventing worshipers from praying there, holding the Israeli authorities accountable for the dangerous repercussions that could arise from these measures. They said they rejected attempts to Judaize Jerusalem and obliterate its Palestinian identity.

The two officials also reviewed the victories achieved by the Iraqi army and the Popular’s Mobilization forces against ISIS, extending congratulations to the people and government of Iraq on the great victory in Mosul city.
