Iran: Targeting of Terrorists in Syria Was Coordinated With Damascus

Iran says operation was carried out with full knowledge of the Syrian government and was part of Tehran's policy on destroying Wahhabi movements, SANA reports

Tehran affirmed on Monday that the targeting of terrorist sites in Deir-ez-Zor by Iranian forces was in coordination with the Syrian government and within the context of Iran’s firm policy of fighting terrorism.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi said that the targeting of terrorist sites in Deir-ez-Zor was carried out with the prior knowledge of Syrian government and within Iran’s framework of combating takfiri (hard-line Sunni) Wahhabi movements.

He added that the Deir-ez-Zor operation was a “small slap” and a warning to those who refuse to understand the realities of the region and their own limits.

He asserted that the fight against terrorism is in defense of the region and Iran, which will spare no effort in fighting terrorists and will not compromise when it comes to defending its stability and security.
