Jaish al-Tawhid Alliance Emerges in Northern Homs

New rebel alliance in northern Homs launches surprise attack on pro-Assad villages killing 20 troops

At least nine rebel groups active in the northern countryside of Homs province have merged to form Jaish al-Tawhid, according to video statement.

The new alliance, backed by the Nusra Front and Ahrar al-Sham fighters, launched a surprise attack on Syrian army posts near the pro-Assad villages of Jbourin and Kafrnan on Tuesday, leaving 20 troops dead, activists said.

Rebels took control of four checkpoints that were previously used as bases for mortar and missile attacks on rebel-held areas.

Meanwhile, regime aerial and ground bombardment targeted the towns of al-Ghajer, al-Hola, al-Saen, Talbiseh and al-Ghanto, killing 14 people.
